Bob Dylan, Miley Cyrus, and Amnesty International

Miley Cyrus covering Bob Dylan? The thought might make you run for the hills and hunker down for the end of the world. Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years

of Amnesty International is an exhaustive 4-disc, 72-track collection of Dylan’s songs—covered by a wildly eclectic list of contributors, from Cyrus (who actually nails it on her sparse take of “You’re Going To Make Me Lonesome When You Go”) to G&G favorites such as My Morning Jacket, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, and the Avett Brothers (who add vocals to a haunting version of “One Too Many Mornings” that Johnny Cash recorded).

“Having been a fan of Dylan’s music for many years, it was a great honor to have a chance to reinterpret one of his pieces,” says Dom Flemons of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who contribute a ripping version of “Political World” from Dylan’s 1989 album Oh Mercy. “We chose it because of the words and the way it remains as strong of a statement today as it was when it first came out.”

Proceeds from the album benefit Amnesty International. Head to http://music.amnestyusa.org/ for a full track listing and audio samples.
